Abshire Abdille: ISANS intercultural coordinator
 intercultural differences workshops taking place twice a month one on july 6 (which is full) and on July 19th and there will be more in September. also there is an event called supernova coming up in the fall which includes a potluck and the activities. 
 
Rene Boudreau– Mulgrave park Caring and Learning Center area program coordinator
regular program intakes still happening. summer camp starts tuesday and is full and there is a waitlist. parkdays event will take place in the last week of august with meetings taking place every Wednesday at 2:30 at mulgrave park 
 
Barry Schmidle: Department of community services. manager Service provider relationships
grant from community culture and heritage building vibrant communities. There are two tiers the large grant is for $50,000 and the other one is a small grant less than $50,000. the projects have to be action oriented not focus groups etc. There will be 4 categories which you can apply for funding under: housing, children, economic inclusion, and mental health and addictions. 
also just a reminder on the educate to work for dependence program: if your family is on assistance and you are in school full-time the program will pay for half of your program but this is only f you attend NSCC. the money provided will not affect your student loan amount. the money applies to all years of study at NSCC and the funding id available all year round 
 
Max: Diabetes canada
4 updates: 
  • funds have been renewed for the afrocentric health program. there are 3 health coaches that meet with participants and talk about diabetes and prevention, anyone is welcome to drop by. visit tomb.com for more information
  • insulin pump program working on promoting it as its not very popular and can help replace the daily insulin injections
  • come out and support the squeeze on diabetes lemonade stand taking place all over Canada the goals is to reach $150,000
  • lastly looking for about 100 volunteers for the annual professional conference in Halifax.

there are a couple of open house days coming up July 20, 27 and Friday august 3rd. There are 2 intake days coming up soon one is August 27th and the other is October 1st

  • next monday at the young street location (6080 young street) program is taking place on pre-diabeties and prevention form 9:30-12
  • on July 10th 1:30-3 information session on how to stretch your food dollar
  • central library will be hosting Talk about Free Time in the creative lab where you can learn to make origami’s

recently teamed up with community health team to talk about health management taking place eon july 26. 
also new shower hour program where you can drop in and take a free hot shower and shampoo etc. is provided 1-3pm

had first plants to plates session with the kids who made bruschetta. the city left a planter box which was nice and allowed the kids to get their hands dirty and enjoy/learn planting

  • Weekly Anti-Oppressive Improv in the Halifax Common  6:30-8:30
  • Speed Friending 3.0 at Halifax Pride on July 24th 6pm to 8:45pm
  • Free Consultations at Nocturne in the Public Gardens on October 13th
  • we plan on leading a workshop series in preparation for this event
  • Recording an album of Feminist Dance Anthems to be released at the end of the summer
  • Publishing a children’s book on gender identity sometime in August or September
  • We have sound equipment available for other groups or people to borrow for events etc
  • We are also happy to collaborate with other artists and groups working on projects of their own!

lives in the north end. last year held a potluck in the winter and invited everyone from the community about 42 people showed up so decided to do it quarterly hoping to get more senior citizens from group homes, shelters etc. don’t require bring your own food next one is on august 18th

youth head start job search camp starts july 13th helps with career exploration. camp is 6 weeks long 3 days a week space is limited. employment support services for those in junior high or high school.
